Granby, Colorado – An Adventurous Winter Vacation
How it all began….
My husband and I always wanted to take a winter vacation. Most of our traveling has revolved around warm, beach places and we were ready to try something new. My husband was randomly checking out flights to Colorado and surprisingly Southwest Airlines had flights to Denver for $50 roundtrip!! (Pretty awesome). We purchased the tickets immediately because the price was just too good to pass up. As a result, our trip to Granby was underway.
The Beginning…
My immediate family and I headed to Denver in late January with my husband’s side of the family. We spent one night in Denver and took the drive up to Granby the next day around noon. The drive was pretty smooth and the scenery was gorgeous!!
We had wonderful accommodations at the WorldMark Granby timeshare, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, full kitchen, living room and dining area. Day 1 was spent getting acquainted with the area, buying groceries at the local market, and relaxing at the timeshare.
The Adventure
On day 2, we drove to Winterpark Resort to do our activities. First, we went snow biking. It is a bike on skis, with your feet as the brakes. It cost $59 per person. The instructor we had was great, and he helped us get our equipment and provide adequate instructions for riding the snow bikes. We got on the lifts holding our snow bikes to get to the top of the mountain and our adventure began.
The snow bike tour was 2 hours long, and consisted of us riding down multiple slopes ranging from beginner to intermediate. We definitely had our share of bumps and bruises….including me trying to do a trick like the instructor and totally hitting a tree. My left arm and shoulder were definitely sore for the next few days, but it didn’t stop my fun. We had an awesome time and would do it all over again. Most noteworthy were the amazing views from the top of the mountain!
Later that day we took the kids tubing. Tubing was $23 per person for one hour. Everyone had a great time from young to old sliding down the snow sitting in a tube. There were lots of bumps and barriers at the end to help you slow down but as usual, I somehow managed to go through both barriers. But no harm was done! 🙂
On day 3, my husband and I went to Granby Ranch to take ski lessons. The cost was $165 per person for a 4hr lesson. The price included the skis, ski boots, helmets, the lifts, and the instructor. The instructor started us off on the kiddie slopes, teaching us how to steer, turn and control our body on the skis. He eventually took us to the first slope and we went down slowly practicing our turns and stopping. We progressed on the skis and started making bigger turns. When the instructor finally let us go down the slope without stopping it really felt like second nature. My body naturally glided into the turns and I felt like I truly experienced the joy of skiing. My husband and I both had our share of falls but what is life without some failures. Lol.
Conclusion
Overall, if you are planning a winter vacation I would definitely check out Granby, Colorado. It’s a small town with big adventures. It is an easy place for kids and adults alike to have fun. We lived, laughed, loved and definitely felt fulfilled!!
